About this recipe: A quick and easy cake traybake made with fresh apples, chopped walnuts and a touch of cinnamon.

Serves: 9 

  • 115g butter, melted
  • 200g caster sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 125g plain flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 125g apples - peeled, cored and finely diced
  • 115g chopped walnuts

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas 4. Grease and flour a 20cm (8 inch) square baking tin.
  2. Mix melted butter, sugar and eggs in a large bowl. Stir in flour, bicarbonate of soda and cinnamon. Fold in apples and walnuts; spread cake batter into prepared tin.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven until a small knife inserted in the centre of the cake comes out clean, about 40 minutes.
