Special pink lemonade

    There is nothing more refreshing than a cool glass of homemade lemonade. Pink lemonade was traditionally dyed with beetroot juice, but this recipe uses cranberry juice for flavour and colour.

    Serves: 5 

    • 4 unwaxed lemons
    • 100g (3 1/2oz) caster sugar
    • 600ml (1pt) boiling water
    • 200ml (7floz) cranberry juice, chilled
    • 200ml (7floz) water, chilled
    • ice and lemon slices, to serve

    1. Using a potato peeler, peel the zest from the lemons, leaving as much of the white pith on the lemons as possible. Squeeze the juice from the lemons.
    2. Pour the lemon juice into a heatproof jug, add the sugar and lemon zest. Pour over the boiling water and stir until the sugar has dissolved.
    3. Leave to cool. Then strain the lemonade into a serving jug.
    4. Stir in the cranberry juice and chilled water. Sweeten with extra sugar if desired and serve in glasses with ice and a slice of lemon.


    Serves aproxomately 5 people and takes around 15 minutes to make.
