Baked apple cinnamon tart

    This flavourful baked apple cinnamon tart is perfect as a simple dessert. Arrange the apple slices in a spiral for a nice look and sprinkle with sultanas if desired.

    • 170g (6 oz) plain flour
    • 1 pinch salt
    • 110g (4 oz) butter
    • 110g (4 oz) caster sugar
    • 2 tablespoons apple purée
    • 3 small cooking apples, peeled and sliced
    • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

    1. Preheat oven to 200 C / Gas 6. Grease an ovenproof flan dish or tart tin.
    2. Sift the flour and salt into a bowl and rub in 85g (3 oz) butter until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Stir in 85g (3 oz) of sugar and mix well. Press the crumble base mixture into the prepared dish or tin.
    3. Over the crumble base, spread the apple purée and arrange the apple slices on top. Over the apples sprinkle the cinnamon, the remainder of the sugar and dot with the remainder of the butter.
    4. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes until the apples are golden and soft.
    5. Remove from the oven and allow to cool before slicing and serving.
