There are several variations/additions to this recipe which are easy to implement depending on taste and occasion. If you like fruit in your scones, add 55g (2 oz) of sultanas to the recipe.
For a slightly different taste and texture, in place of the self raising flour, use 225g (1/2 lb) plain white flour and 225g (1/2 lb) wholemeal flour.
For a savoury scone, omit the sugar and in its place, add 55g (2 oz) of grated cheese.
