About this recipe: This recipe was passed to me by a friend. It is an ideal vegetarian option when introducing different tastes to babies, and a good source of protein and iron. It can also be frozen and used when needed. You can add half a tin of chopped tomatoes instead of the sweet potato - my son loves it!

Serves: 2 

  • oil for cooking
  • 1/2 onion, chopped
  • 100g carrots, chopped
  • 1 stick celery, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 50g split red lentils
  • 200g sweet potato, peeled and cubed
  • 400ml vegetable stock

Prep:10min  ›  Cook:30min  ›  Ready in:40min 

  1. Heat oil in a frying pan; add onion and cook until softened. Add carrots and celery and continue to cook on medium heat for 5 more minutes, or until soft. Add lentil, sweet potato and vegetable stock.
  2. Bring to the boil, lower the heat and cover. Let it simmer for 20 minutes. Serve.


Puree in a blender if serving to older babies or toddlers.
