BBQ sauce homemade

    My BBQ sauce is a great all purpose one for ribs, burgers, bacon and pulled pork. Easy to make and delicious.

    Makes: 375 ml BBQ sauce

    • 1 tablespoon olive oil
    • 1 medium onion, finely diced
    • 400g tin chopped tomatoes
    • 85g light brown sugar
    • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
    • 3 tablespoons malt vinegar
    • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
    • 2 bay leaves
    • fresh ground black pepper to taste
    • 1 heaped tablespoon tomato puree

    Prep:15min  ›  Cook:40min  ›  Ready in:55min 

    1. In a saucepan, heat the oil and sweat down the onion until soft, about 10 minutes.
    2. Add all the remaining ingredients, mix well. Bring to the boil then turn down to a simmer.
    3. Simmer gently for 30 to 45 minutes or until reduced and thickened.
    4. Allow to cool then puree in a mini chopper or hand blender.
    5. Cover, chill, then bring to room temperature before serving.

    Love making this bbq sauce. Its a great hit for parties and goes well with my pulled pork recipe. I also made a second sauce and added chillies to make a hotter tasting sauce  -  20 Sep 2015


    Made the sauce but added two teaspoons of smoked paprika. Very well received sauce by the family. I then used the sauce to cook some chicken in.  -  13 Sep 2017
