Easy sushi rice

    This is a simple, quick and delicious sushi rice recipe. It is great to use for sushi rolls or just to eat plain!

    Serves: 8 

    • 350g sushi rice
    • 450ml water
    • 4 tablespoons rice vinegar
    • 2 tablespoons sugar
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt

    1. Place the rice in a bowl and wash it out until the water is clear (3 to 4 times). Drain the rice in a sieve.
    2. Add the rice and fresh water to a saucepan. Bring it to the boil and simmer for 10 minutes.
    3. After 10 minutes bring down to a low heat and cook for 7 to 9 minutes. Stir once in awhile so the rice doesn't stick to the bottom and burn.
    4. In a microwave safe bowl mix together the vinegar, sugar and salt. Put the vinegar mixture in the microwave for 30 seconds.
    5. Take the rice off the heat and spoon into a bowl. Pour the vinegar mix on the rice and mix in a chopping motion. We do this because if we stir the rice it will lose its stickiness which is needed for making sushi.
