Make your own homemade bouquet garni using this simple recipe. Many dishes call for a bouquet garni especially in stock, stews and casseroles. Even though there is no standard recipe for the bouquet garni, most contain sprigs of herbs like thyme and a bay leaf that are hardy enough to remain intact after hours of cooking.
If you would prefer, you can wrap the herbs in a cheesecloth or muslin and secure with kitchen string, this will ensure that the herbs do not break apart.
Depending on the dish, you can add sprigs of rosemary, tarragon, coriander or sage leaves.
