    This cake definitely fits the image of a chocolate cake! This is a no frills, easy chocolate cake which can be sandwiched with cream or spread with buttercream.

    Makes: 1 chocolate cake

    • 110g (4 oz) margarine
    • 140g (5 oz) caster sugar
    • 2 medium eggs, beaten
    • 1 tablespoon milk
    • 110g (4 oz) self raising flour
    • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
    • 4 tablespoons hot water

    1. Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas 4. Grease and flour 2 sandwich tins.
    2. Beat together the margarine and sugar, till fluffly. Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the milk.
    3. Combine the cocoa and hot water. Stir into the margarine mixture, then stir in the flour. Divide mixture between the two tins.
    4. Place in preheated oven on middle shelf for 20 to 25 minutes or until well risen.
    5. Leave tins to cool and then remove to cool thoroughly on wire rack.


    If mixture is a bit too wet add a little more flour.
