About this recipe: A Traditonal recipe for bread and butter pudding with sultanas, currants and a touch of cinnamon on top.

Serves: 6 

  • 8 thin sliced bread, buttered and cut into triangles
  • 600ml whole milk
  • 50g sultanas or raisins
  • 50g currants
  • 50g sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 eggs
  • 50ml double cream
  • sugar, for sprinkling

  1. Grease a baking dish. Cover the bottom of the dish with a layer of bread then a layer of fruit on top, then another layer of bread with more fruit and finishing with a layer of bread.
  2. Preheat the oven to 150 C / Gas 2. Sprinkle a little cinnamon and sugar to make the top nice and crispy.
  3. Beat together milk, cream and eggs and warm through in a saucepan. Whisk in sugar, then pour over the bread in the dish. Let soak for 20 minutes.
  4. Bake for 50 minutes or until set and golden.
