Preheat your oven to 180 C / Gas 4. Line a muffin tray with paper cases.
Sift the plain flour, cocoa and baking powder into a large bowl. Whisk the sugar, butter and oil in another bowl until light and creamy. Mix in the beaten egg and vanilla.
In a glass or jug, add red food colouring to the buttermilk. Mix well with a fork until even in colour.
Gradually add the egg mixture and buttermilk, alternately, into the dry flour mixture. Continue until it is evenly mixed. Finally, add the vinegar and give it one final stir. Spoon into the paper cases.
Bake for 35 minutes, then remove from oven and cool on a baking tray for 30 minutes. Then decorate them with a cream cheese icing.
