About this recipe: This delightful orange and lemon cordial is refreshing and thirst quenching on a lazy summer afternoon. Make ahead of time and bottle for special parties or occasions.


Makes: 2 litres cordial

  • zest and juice of 3 oranges
  • zest and juice of 3 lemons
  • 2.7kg (6 lb) caster sugar
  • 55g (2 oz) citric acid
  • 25g (1 oz) cream of tartar
  • 2L (3 1/2 pt) boiling water

  1. In a large bowl, combine the zest and juice of the oranges and lemons, the sugar, citric acid and cream of tartar. Pour the boiling water over and leave to steep overnight.
  2. The next day, strain the liquid into a clean bowl and pour into sterilised bottles. Store in the fridge after opening.


To drink, mix one part cordial to 5 parts cold sparkling water and add a slice of orange.
