Sweet and spicy chilli dip

About this recipe: A fresh zingy mixture to serve with meat or fish, or to eat as a dip with crisps or crackers. No need for exact measures - just use equal amounts of tomato, cucumber, onion and strawberries according to how many servings you need.

Serves: 4 

  • 4 tablespoons diced cucumber
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 4 tablespoons diced ripe tomatoes
  • 4 tablespoons diced sweet onion or spring onion
  • 4 tablespoons diced strawberries
  • seeded and chopped jalapeno, to taste
  • juice of 1/2 lime, or to taste
  • chopped fresh basil, to taste
  • chopped fresh mint, to taste

  1. Sprinkle diced cucumber with salt and put in sieve to drain off excess liquid.
  2. Skin tomatoes, remove pulp and pips and chop flesh.
  3. Put drained chopped cucumber in a bowl and add chopped tomatoes along with all remaining ingredients.


I find jalapeno chillies in a jar also work well. Or you could use pimento d'espelette.
