Banana choc chip bread

    This moist banana chocolate chip bread features a hint of cinnamon and gooey dark chocolate chunks. It is the perfect addition to any afternoon tea whether it be fancy or informal.

    Serves: 10 

    • 3 large really ripe bananas
    • 120g unsalted butter, melted and cooled, plus a little for greasing
    • 2 medium eggs, beaten
    • 200g golden caster sugar
    • 250g plain flour
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
    • 1 pinch salt
    • 120ml milk
    • 100g dark chocolate, chopped into pieces

    1. Preheat the oven to 190 C / 170 C fan / Gas 5. Grease and line a 900g (2 lb) loaf tin with baking parchment.
    2. In a large bowl mash the bananas with the back of a fork and stir through the cooled butter, eggs and sugar.
    3. Mix together the dry ingredients with a pinch of salt, then sift this over the mashed bananas. Half fold through with a large metal spoon, then add the milk and chopped chocolate and continue to carefully fold everything together. Spoon the mixture into the prepared tin.
    4. Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour, or until a skewer inserted into the middle comes away clean (cover with foil if it browns too much). Leave to cool for 15 minutes in the tin, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.

    I made this with dairy free spread, soya milk and dark choc drops and as muffins, as my wife and i are allergic to milk and were very nom nom, the kids loved them. They cooked in 15 mins.  -  17 Nov 2017


    I used gluten free flower and it was lovely and moist my husband couldn't keep his hands off it think it was all gone the day I baked it  -  19 Jul 2014
