Rub the garlic love into the bread if you like your Cuban sandwish 'Le Oriente' style, or just spread butter on both sides of the bread.
Now assemble your sandwich withe the remaining ingredients.
Most people don't have a Plancha to grill the sandwich like they do in Little Havana. I use a cast iron skillet and a brick wrapped in aluminium foil to recreate the magic of the Plancha. Just place your sandwich on the cast iron skillet and place the brick on top. Flip the sandwich after about 2 minutes...and now you are so close....just one last grilling of the other side of the cuban bread....ahhh.
These sandwiches are a favorite in my household. I omit the sauce listed in the recipe, but rather use yellow mustard (traditional), spreading it on one side of the bread. I, too, am too cheap to buy a plancha or panini press so I use the brick method---it works just fine. - 01 Apr 2014
