About this recipe:My daughter and I thought this up when we wanted to make a chocolate cake but had apples to use up. It turned out to be a very yummy chocolate cake which is moist because of the grated apple and gooey because of the chocolate chips!
Pre heat the oven to 180 C / Gas 4. Grease a 900g (2 lb) loaf tin.
Cream together the sugar and butter till light and fluffy. Whisk together the eggs in a bowl and in another sift the flour with the baking powder, cinnamon and cocoa. Alternate adding egg and flour mixture to the butter mixture until all ingredients are combined.
Peel and grate one dessert apple and combine into the mixture. Add almost all of the chocolate chips (keep a handful back for sprinkling on the top) to the mixture and combine. Pour the mixture into a 2lb loaf tin.
Peel and chop the other apple into small cubes around 1cm then sprinkle this and the remaining chocolate chips over the cake.
Bake in the oven for 55 minutes or until a knife comes out clean.
