Cuban Turron (Nougat) with Guava Wafer Borders

    Take your Holiday Nougats to a new level with this tropical twist on an old Cuban/Spanish recipe of my grandmother's.

    • 1 cup simple syrup (melt equal parts Panela Nativo and water in a sucepan) (Available through Cuban Cuisine UK)
    • 1 cup honey
    • 6 egg whites, beaten and stiffened
    • 2 cups tasted almonds or hazelnuts
    • 1 package Goya Guava Wafers (Available through Cuban Cuisine UK)


    1. Mix syrup with honey with the stiffly beaten egg whites
    2. Add nuts and mix well
    3. Heat mixture in a heavy saucepan over medium heat, until very thick and almost candied
    4. Serve in a bowl lined with Goya Guava Wafers (Available through Cuban Cuisine UK)
