Best Yorkshire pudding

    This is our basic family recipe for Yorkshire pudding. Simple, easy and tasty. Perfect for any roast beef dinner.

    Serves: 8 

    • 225g plain flour
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder
    • salt, to taste
    • 5 eggs
    • 600ml milk
    • 4 to 8 tablespoons beef dripping

    1. Combine the flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl and make a well in the centre. Add the eggs and mix. Beat the milk in gradually, whisking constantly. Leave to rest for 1 hour.
    2. Preheat the oven to 230 C / Gas 8. Place the beef dripping in the bottom of a roasting tray and swirl it around, add more if necessary.
    3. Heat the dripping in the preheated oven for at least 8 to 10 minutes until almost smoking. Remove from the oven then pour in the batter, then immediately return to the oven.
    4. Bake in the oven for 20 to 30 minutes until risen and golden brown. Remove from the oven and serve.


    To avoid the Yorkshire pudding from collapsing, do not open the oven door for the first 20 minutes of cooking.
