Apple and blackberry compote

    This lovely freezer friendly apple and blackberry compote is incredibly delicious and is the perfect simple autumn dessert. Enjoy alone or with some ice cream.

    Serves: 4 

    • 2 cooking apples - peeled, cored and sliced
    • 40g caster sugar
    • juice of 1/2 lemon
    • 1 pinch ground nutmeg
    • 3 tablespoons water
    • 170g blackberries

    1. Combine all of the ingredients, except the blackberries, in a saucepan over a medium heat and simmer for 25 minutes until the apples soften. Stir in the blackberries and cook for 5 to 7 minutes until they begin to release juice. Remove from the heat and serve or use.
