In a large saucepan over a medium heat, melt the butter and add the onion and garlic and cook for 5 minutes until soft. Add the cabbage, apples and spices and toss to coat in butter. Add the vinegar and red wine and simmer gently for 30 minutes. Remove from the heat and serve.
