About this recipe: These delicious mashed potatoes are spicy, creamy and a great alternative to plain old mash. Try serving with spicy sausages and a cool, crisp salad.


Serves: 6 

  • 2 sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 55g butter
  • 1 white onion, finely chopped
  • 1 small green chilli, seeded and minced
  • 3 tablespoons double cream
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • salt and pepper, to taste

  1. Cook the potatoes in a saucepan of boiling water for 20 minutes or until tender. Remove from the heat and drain.
  2. Meanwhile in a frying pan over a medium heat, melt the butter and add the onion and chilli. Cook for 4 minutes until soft. Add to the potatoes then mash together with the cream, chives, lemon juice and seasoning. Serve hot.
