Simple cupcake recipe

    A simple recipe for small cupcakes. Doesn't take much time or ingredients, perfect for children to make.

    • 100g caster (or granulated) sugar
    • 100g self-raising flour
    • 100g (soft) margarine
    • 2 medium eggs
    • 50g cocoa powder (optional)
    • 1 tsp vanilla essence (optional)


    1. Preheat oven to 180 (gas mark 6)
    2. Whisk the butter and sugar for 5 minutes until pale and creamy
    3. Weigh out the flour into a Separate bowl and crack the eggs into a jug and beat
    4. Add the egg a bit at a time while whisking
    5. Sieve in the flour and Fold the mixture until no flour can be seen
    6. Put the mixture into cupcake cases and cook for 10-12 minutes


    The vanilla essence or cocoa powder can be added to change the flavour of the recipe if desired.
