Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas 4. Grease a 900g loaf tin and line with baking parchment.
In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and the sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Sift in the flour and add the fruit and nuts. Stir well to mix. Spoon into the prepared loaf tin and smooth the top.
Bake in the preheated oven for 40 to 50 minutes until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean. Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 90 minutes. Slice and serve.
