About this recipe: Yakitori is one of popular dishes as eaten with Japanese sake or beer in Japan. Home made one is loved by both children and adults. Originally, grill the skewers first and then brush yakitori sauce made with soy sauce, cooking sake and mirin sweet cooking sake and grill again. This recipe is easier to make than oliginal one. Enjoy this juicy yakitori with sake or freshly cooked white rice.


  • 500g skinless boneless chicken thighs
  • 2 tablespoons Japanese soy sauce (30ml)
  • 1 tablespoon white wine (15ml)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar (5ml)
  • 1 bundle of spring onion


  1. Cut the chicken thighs into bite-size pieces. Cut the spring onion into about 3cm long peaces.
  2. Place the chicken in a bowl, add the soy sauce, white wine and sugar and mix them. Let satand for several hours. If you use a container with vacuum pump, let stand for 30 minutes.
  3. Preheat oven to 200℃. Brush the oil on the grill rack. Thread three spring onions through bamboo skewer first and a peace of chicken next and repeat 3 or 4 times in this order.
  4. Put the skewers on the grill rack, grill them near the top of the oven for 8-10 minutes.
  5. Serve hot.


If you think it is too much trouble to skewer, you can just grill the chicken on the grill rack.
