About this recipe: These boiled Alexanders buds are ever so quick and easy to make and are a delicious, fun and unusual side dish especially well paired with shellfish.


Serves: 4 

  • 450g Alexanders buds
  • 3 tablespoons salted butter
  • salt and pepper, to taste

  1. Bring a saucepan of water to the boil then add the Alexanders buds. Boil for 5 to 7 minutes until just tender, but still with a little crunch. Drain.
  2. Toss the Alexanders buds in butter and season to taste. Serve immediately.


The stems and buds of the Alexanders plant are both edible and delicious. Mainly found at springtime in the southern coastal counties.
