About this recipe: These cheese straws are the perfect party finger food and really easy to make. Lovely when served still warm from the oven.

Serves: 20 

  • 200g plain flour
  • 150g butter, softened
  • 400g Cheddar cheese, grated
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh chives
  • paprika, to taste
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • milk, as needed

  1. Preheat the oven to 200 C / Gas 6. Grease a baking tray.
  2. Sift the flour into a bowl, then rub in the butter into the flour into the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Mix in the cheese, chives, paprika and seasoning then add just a few teaspoons of milk to pull the mixture into a dough.
  3. Roll the dough into thick straws then cut to desired lengths. Arrange on the prepared baking tray.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes until firm and golden brown. Remove from the oven and serve.
