Fry your sausages off in a pan and once cooked set aside.
Peel potatoes and cook in boiling water until tender.
Combine beans with the syrup, BBQ sauce, garlic, herbs, tomato puree, Worcestershire sauce and garlic in a pan over medium heat. Once warm, season to taste with salt and pepper; it will taste very sweet.
Put sausages in a large casserole dish and top with the baked bean mixture.
Drain the potatoes and mash with the butter and cream. Season to taste.
Spread the mash over the sausages and beans in the casserole dish and sprinkle cheese over.
Bake in a preheated 190 C / Gas 5 oven for 45 minutes, or till the dish is bubbly and the cheese is golden brown. Enjoy!
This dish can be made in advance for a few days time, it can also be frozen if using fresh sausages.
this recipe was better than i expected it and was a big hit with my family.
You can definitely play around with the beans mixture and i substituted a can of chopped tomatoes and frozen sweetcorn for two of the cans of beans. - 10 Jan 2015
