Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas 4. Grease and line a 900g loaf tin with baking parchment.
Beat together softened butter and caster sugar with an electric hand mixer until well combined. Beat in the eggs, vanilla extract and yoghurt, then fold in the flour, baking powder and chocolate chips.
Spoon the cake mixture into the loaf tin and smooth the top.
Bake for 50 to 60 minutes or until a skewer inserted into the centre of the cake comes out clean. Cool in the tin for 30 minutes.
Remove the cake from the tin, and leave to cool completely on a cooling rack.
Dust the chocolate chips in flour before adding to the cake mixture as this will help prevent them sinking to the bottom.
I wanted to make an orange chocolate cake, so added grated orange rind to mixture and used Terry's chocolate orange for the choc chips. I coated them in flour as suggested and they did not sink. Also iced with plain choc ganache and orange matchmakers. Very nice, not too sweet, moist, keeps well. - 30 May 2015
