This is my version of cottage pie - the comforting dish that we all love!
This cottage pie freezes well - simply assemble the pie and freeze before baking. Once you're ready to bake, simply throw it in the oven straight from the freezer.
Have never made cottage pie as hubby says they all taste bland and he remembers them being so boring as a kid so thought I'd convert him and it worked! We both loved this cottage pie. But having read all the reviews I decided to add some extras. I used an oxo cube while frying the mince, also added Worcester sauce and half a glass of red wine with the stock. I made up 300mls of stock instead of 250mls.Also I used whole grain mustard in my mash. I used more potatoes than the recipe too. I have to say without the extras I fear we would have found it too bland for our taste but it was great to find a recipe that I could adapt. Will definitely make again. - 30 Sep 2012
