Caramel pear tart

    A match made in heaven, creamy caramel and pears are baked into a luscious tart that's topped with a light vanilla sponge.

    Serves: 6 

    • 1 sheet shortcrust pastry
    • 200g tinned caramel, such as Carnation®
    • 4 pears - cored, peeled and halved
    • 100g caster sugar
    • 50g plain flour
    • 3 tablespoons crème fraîche
    • 1 egg
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

    1. Preheat oven to 180 C / Gas 4. Lightly grease and flour a 23cm tart tin. Line with pastry and set aside.
    2. Spread caramel over pastry and top with pear halves.
    3. In a medium bowl mix together the remaining ingredients; pour mixture over pears.
    4. Bake in preheated oven for 30 minutes, or till sponge is golden and a skewer inserted in the centre comes out clean. Serve warm or cold.
