Fishy dog treats

    35 min

My dogs love fish. I was given this recipe from a friend in the USA years ago and thought I would share.

    Makes: 30 dog treats

    • 2 small tins tuna, drained
    • 2 eggs
    • 125g to 190g plain flour
    • 1 tablespoon garlic granules (optional)
    • finely grated Parmesan cheese, to taste

    Prep:20min  ›  Cook:15min  ›  Ready in:35min

    1. Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas 4. Line a lipped baking tray or line a square baking tin (20cm or 25cm is fine).
    2. Mash the fish in a bowl (discard any bones) or blend in a food processor if you wish. Mix in the eggs then add the flour and garlic powder (if using). At this stage the mixture should resemble a sloppy sponge cake mix. Spoon the mixture onto the prepared baking tray. Sprinkle the Parmesan cheese over the top.
    3. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes until firm and the edges will start to shrink away from sides when done. Remove from the oven and place onto a cooling rack. Once cooled, cut into bite size pieces.

    Subsitutions and variations

A mixture of fish can be used and I often use sardines and tuna together. Instead of plain flour, you can use a mix of rice flour and cornmeal if your dog has allergies.

These treats can be stored in the fridge in an airtight container for a few days or freeze as they defrost quickly at room temperature.
