    About this recipe: My version of the classic British dish is delicious and a great way to hide the veggies from the kids!

    Ingredients
    Serves: 4 

    • 6 large potatoes, peeled and halved
    • 3 carrots, diced
    • 500g minced beef
    • 1 onion, diced
    • 2 beef stock cubes
    • 2 tablespoons plain flour
    • 200g frozen peas
    • ground black pepper
    • 30g butter, or to taste
    • 75ml milk
    • 150g grated cheese

    Method
    Prep:15min  ›  Cook:40min  ›  Ready in:55min 

    1. Place the potatoes in a pan of water. Bring to the boil and cook till tender.
    2. Meanwhile, add the carrots to a small pan. Add water to just cover the carrots. Bring to the boil and cook till tender. Do not drain the water.
    3. Add the onion with a little oil to a large deep pan over medium high heat. Once soft add the mince and fry until browned. Remove from heat and crumble in the stock cubes; stir well. Sprinkle over the flour and stir well until there are no lumps of flour.
    4. Add peas and the carrots along with the water they were cooked in to the beef mixture. Stir well, season with black pepper and return to the heat on a gentle simmer for 5 to 10 minutes.
    5. Drain the potatoes and mash with milk and butter.
    6. In a deep baking dish place the meat mixture and smooth out. Top with the mashed potato and level out with a fork. Sprinkle over the grated cheese.
    7. Bake in a preheated 200 C / Gas 6 oven for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the cheese is golden brown.
