Chocolate concrete, just like school

    40 min

I've tried loads of different recipes for chocolate concrete, but this is so yummy - every time I make this it's gone in minutes. They all say it's just like choc concrete from school. Enjoy!

    Makes: 9 squares

    • 225g (8 oz) plain flour

    Prep:15min  ›  Cook:25min  ›  Ready in:40min

    1. Preheat oven to 180 C / Gas 4.
    2. Line a 7 inch square cake tin with baking parchment, just so it overlaps sides, as it'll be easier to lift the cake out of the tin.
    3. Next put flour, sugar and cocoa powder into a food processor then quickly pulse this for a few seconds until all mixed evenly.
    4. Then add the softened butter to the dry ingredients and pulse every few seconds until mixture looks like small little clumps.
    5. With a spatula, stir around the sides and mix well. Tip mixture into the cake tin, gently spread evenly to all corners making sure it's level, then press firmly till flat and even. Prick with fork all over.
    6. Place in oven, middle shelf, and bake for about 25 to 30 minutes, until firm to the touch. Cook longer if you want a firmer cake, up to 5 minutes.
    7. When out of the oven sprinkle with sugar, cut into 9 small squares and leave to cool. Enjoy!

To make a larger quantity just double up the ingredients and use a bigger tin.

After patting it down firmly, rake a fork over it and run the tin under the tap, drain, generously sprinkle with sugar then put in the oven, perfection!!  -  24 Nov 2015

Simple and easy recipe. My only issue was that it says to bring it out the oven when It's firm to the touch, and it seemed soft to me so I ended up leaving it in for 3 more 5 minute periods and ended up burning the edges and the bottom. I didn't realise that it firmed up as it cooled. So just a heads up that the timing is correct on the recipe.  -  17 Apr 2018
