Chocolate crunch bites

About this recipe: These chocolate crunch bites have been given the approval by my household as being something tasty which basically means something relatively healthy has been disguised! These are actually so simply to make, require minimal ingredients and can be kept in a container to grab at when you are feeling the desires of the sweet land coming on.

Makes: 14 crunch bites

  • 8 dates, stoned and chopped
  • 2 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 280g oats
  • 150g plain chocolate

Prep:20min  ›  Cook:30min  ›  Extra time:30min chilling  ›  Ready in:1hr20min

  1. Preheat the oven to 150 C / Gas 2.
  2. Place the chopped dates into a microwave safe bowl and add enough warm water so that the dates are just about covered (the water amount is dependable on the size of your date pieces you are using - I needed roughly about 70ml). Place this in the microwave and cook in increments of 1 minute until the water boils.
  3. Drain the water from the dates and using a potato masher (or back end of spoon) squash the dates into a paste-like consistency. Drain any excess water that become apparent.
  4. Mix the date paste, bananas and oats together. Using your hands, make balls from the mixture and place on a baking tray.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for around 30 minutes or until golden. Remove from the oven and allow to cool.
  6. Melt the plain chocolate in the microwave in increments of 30 seconds, stirring occasionally. Dip each of the balls into the chocolate then place on a tray lined with baking parchment. Chill in the fridge for 30 minutes until set. Remove from the fridge and serve.
