About this recipe: Delicious soft rolls. Ideal for serving with soups or stuffing with your favourite sandwich fillers.

Makes: 12 small soft rolls

  • 200ml warm water
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 50g caster sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 400g strong bread flour
  • 1 tablespoon active dried yeast
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

  1. Add the ingredients into the bread maker either in the order listed above (or in the order as per your bread-maker's instructions) and select the dough cycle (on average this can take about 90 minutes).
  2. Take the dough out from the breadmaker and roll in flour if a little sticky. Divide into sections and roll into balls (makes 12 small or 8 to 9 medium). Place on a greased baking tray spaced apart (or in a casserole dish touching for rolls you can pull apart) cover with a clean tea towel and set side for 30 minutes.
  3. Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas 4.
  4. Just prior to cooking, brush the rolls with melted butter.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 15 minutes, or until risen and golden brown. Remove from the oven and serve warm, or allow to cool before serving and enjoying.
