Yummy cheese sauce

    You can use this sauce with fish, veg or pasta! This cheese sauce is easy to make and is so versatile, however for best results use as soon as it is made.

    Ingredients
    Makes: 1 245g batch cheese sauce

    • 25g margarine or butter
    • 25g plain flour
    • 120ml semi-skimmed milk
    • 75g Cheddar cheese, grated
    • black pepper, to taste

    Method

    1. Melt the margarine or butter in a saucepan over a medium heat. Sprinkle in the flour and cook and stir for a few minutes until golden brown. Increase the heat and gradually add the milk, whisking constantly to prevent lumps, until thickened. Reduce the heat and allow to bubble gently for a few minutes. Stir in the grated cheese and black pepper, and continue stirring until the cheese has melted. Use immediately.

    Tip

    Add fresh herbs to the sauce, like chopped parsley or basil.
