Skint Dad's honey and oat bar recipe

    30 min

My lovely wife always used to make these honey and oat bars and hasn’t for ages. I’m not sure why but luckily, she decided to make a batch at the weekend (followed by another batch within 30 minutes as we’d eaten most of them!).

    Kent, England, UK
    10 people made this

Makes: 8 honey and oat bars

    • 100g margarine or butter
    • 50g brown sugar
    • 4 tablespoons runny honey
    • 200g rolled oats

    Prep:10min  ›  Cook:20min  ›  Ready in:30min

    1. Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas 4. Grease a square cake tin and line with baking parchment.
    2. Heat the margarine, sugar and honey in a large saucepan over a medium heat, stirring until it's all melted. Remove from the heat and mix in the oats.
    3. Transfer the mixture to the prepared cake tin and press with the back of a spoon to compact.
    4. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and cool for a few hours before cutting.

After the dish has mostly cooled, we usually pop it into the fridge to get it really cold before cutting them up. We get 8 bars out of ours but if we used a different dish, or wanted thinner bars we may be able to get more but I quite like them just the way she does them!!
