Preheat the oven to 220 C / 200 C fan / Gas 7.
Combine the Herman sourdough starter, butter, flour and syrup in a non-metallic bowl and mix well with a wooden spoon until it forms a sticky, smooth mixture. Add the chocolate chips and mix until they are evenly dispersed, then with a spoon, drop even blobs of the mixture onto a greased baking tray.
Bake in the preheated oven for 15 a 20 minutes until risen and golden brown. Remove from the oven and serve warm, or transfer to a cooling rack to cool before enjoying.
