Preheat the oven 180 C / Gas 4. Line a 12 hole muffin tin with paper cases.
Melt the butter in a saucepan over a medium heat then transfer to a mixing bowl and beat with the sugar using a handheld mixer. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition, followed by the flour and milk and whisk until creamy. Spoon the mixture into the prepared paper cases filling only 2/3 full to allow for a good rise.
Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, or until risen and golden and a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean. Remove from the oven and allow to cool on a cooling rack before decorating.
Tip
You can pipe double cream inside the small cakes also you can do icing on there. Or just put icing sugar and put sugar stars or something that kids like on top.
