Ultimate pizza sauce

    Who doesn't love pizza? Who doesn't love good pizza? Who doesn't love great pizza? Well be prepared you are about to make the ultimate pizza sauce. I've experimented with a few different variations and this is a combination of all of those with some additions of my own. This is the pizza sauce recipe you have been looking for, it's sweet and tasty you literally can not get enough of it. We use it on pizzas and then even use it as a dipping sauce for the pizza crusts. No other pizza sauce recipe will come close. We have used this recipe over and over and it always goes down a treat.

    Serves: 12 

    • 1 medium onion, finely diced
    • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
    • 1 (400g) tin chopped tomatoes
    • 500g passata
    • 2 tablespoons tomato puree
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
    • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
    • 5 fresh basil leaves, finely chopped
    • 2 tablespoons caster sugar

    1. Warm a little oil in a frying pan over a medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook and stir until soft and just browning, about 4 to 6 minutes.
    2. In a saucepan, combine the chopped tomatoes, passata, tomato puree, salt, pepper then add the onion and garlic. Simmer gently, uncovered, for 15 minutes.
    3. Once the pizza sauce has been bubbling away for 15 minutes it's time to add some herbs; oregano and basil are a great match for tomato so throw those in. Sprinkle in the sugar, then turn the heat down to low and cook for a further 5 minutes, or until to desired thickness.
    4. Once your happy with it, use on pizza or transfer to a suitable container. You can use the pizza sauce right away, store in the fridge or even freeze it. It also makes a great sauce for anything else such as pasta, sandwiches, and for dipping.
