Delicious and easy homemade yoghurt

    We have yoghurt for almost every breakfast and try to eat organic so the cost added up quickly. After trying to make our own yoghurt we have never gone back! We make a big batch on Sunday and it lasts us all week. It saves us money but it is also so fresh, delicious and easy!

    Makes: 15 servings

    • 1.2L full fat milk
    • 60g yoghurt (see tip)

    1. Pour the milk into a large pot and heat it on the hob until it reaches 93 degrees C, stirring frequently.
    2. Take the milk off the heat and cool to 46 degrees C. To do this I prefer to use an ice-bath or you can also just leave it until it cools to the appropriate temperature.
    3. Scoop out about a cup of the warm milk and whisk in the yoghurt, then whisk it into the rest of the warm milk.
    4. Cover and leave to sit for at least 4 hours in a warm place. I have also left it in a warm oven overnight and it was still fine in the morning.
    5. Give your delicious yoghurt a stir and it is ready to taste. Store in an air-tight container in the fridge. Enjoy!

    Yoghurt starter

    I have made this recipe with much more than 60g, this is more of a minimum amount. We suggest a non-fruit Greek yoghurt starter (note that "Greek-style" yoghurts will not work as well).
