Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas 4. Grease two 18cm (7 in) cake tins and line with baking parchment.
Combine the butter and sugar in a mixing bowl and beat until light and fluffy. Add in the eggs, one at a time, and beat until pale and creamy. Sift in the flour and baking powder and stir until well integrated. Divide the cake mixture equally between the two cake tins.
Bake in the preheated oven for 15 to 25 minutes until risen, golden brown and a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean. Remove from the oven and allow to cool in the tin for a few minutes before transferring to a cooling rack to cool completely. Decorate as desired when cold.
I made this cake yestetday. It was delicious very light & moist. My husband loved it, he is Tunisian & cakes here are not the same as ours in UK so it was a big hit. Thank you for sharing this recipe - 15 Jan 2017
