Preheat the oven to 190 C / Gas 5. Grease a baking tray.
Cream the butter and sugar together till pale and fluffy. Add the vanilla extract and beat well. Add the flour and knead to form a dough ball then separate the dough into about 20 smaller balls. Spread the oats out onto a saucer then roll the balls in oats. Add half a cherry on top.
Bake in a preheated oven for 10 to 15 minutes until golden brown. Remove from the oven and cool for about 10 to 15 minutes and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before serving.
You might have to mix the flour very well to help form a dough and use your hands to make the dough. This will become very messy.
