About this recipe: This salt dough isn't particularly tasty, but that ain't the point. Using flour, salt, a little oil, and a drop of water, it can form a mouldable dough that only needs heated to harden.

Makes: 1 (350g) batch salt dough

  • 125g plain flour
  • 145g salt
  • 120ml water
  • 1 splash of oil

Prep:10min  ›  Cook:3min  ›  Ready in:13min

  1. Sieve the flour into a bowl. Gradually beat with a spoon while adding in the salt. Add the water a spoonful at a time while steadily beating the dough until it resembles a dough texture. Add a splash of oil to prevent cracking and breaking up.
  2. Mould into your preferred shape. Place onto a ceramic plate and microwave for 2 to 3 minutes.
  3. Wait until cooled when removed from microwave before glazing with paint or the mixture in the footnotes. If wrapping as a gift and bubble wrap isn't available, place into a box and wrap the box.

Glaze mix: add a splash of water and oil to a cup sprinkle a pinch of caster sugar on it mix lightly add gel colouring if wanted, if not, add some natural milk or yoghurt brush lightly with a cotton bud or q-tip over the cooked dough leave to cool, done.
