    About this recipe: Rich and fudgy, but by adding oats they are ever so slightly healthier than your standard brownie!

    Ingredients
    Serves: 16 

    • 120g quick cooking porridge oats
    • 145g soft brown sugar
    • 80g wholemeal flour
    • 55g cocoa powder
    • 40g plain flour
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
    • 1 banana
    • 2 eggs
    • 115g butter
    • 80ml milk
    • 60g apple sauce
    • 2 tablespoons vanilla extract
    • 40g chocolate chips

    Method
    Prep:15min  ›  Cook:40min  ›  Ready in:55min 

    1. Preheat oven to 180 C / Gas 4. Grease a 20cm square baking tin.
    2. Mix oats, brown sugar, wholemeal flour, cocoa powder, plain flour and baking powder together in a large bowl; mash in banana. Stir in eggs, butter, milk, apple sauce and vanilla extract; mix thoroughly until batter is smooth. Pour into the baking tin. Sprinkle chocolate chips on top.
    3. Bake in the preheated oven until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean, 40 to 45 minutes.

    Perhaps I'm biased, but I thought these were awesome. I've adjusted the recipe a bit since I first wrote it. Adding an extra banana and upping the milk to 3/4 cup (or even 1 cup) makes for moister, more flavourful brownies.  -  04 Jan 2016  (Review from Allrecipes US | Canada)
