Korean fried tofu with spicy dipping sauce

    A simple, quick and tasty Korean vegetarian recipe. The dipping sauce is quite spicy, so adjust the ingredients to your taste. The easiest way to dip the fried tofu in the sauce is to use chopsticks.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 2 

    • 400g firm tofu
    • pinch of sea salt, or to taste
    • 1 egg, lightly beaten
    • 240ml vegetable oil for frying, or as needed
    • Dipping Sauce
    • 80ml soy sauce
    • 2 spring onions, sliced
    • 2 chilli peppers, thinly sliced
    • 2 teaspoons white vinegar
    • 2 teaspoons sugar
    • 1 teaspoon dried chilli flakes

    Method

    1. Slice tofu into 12 equal rectangular pieces. Sprinkle salt on both sides of tofu slices.
    2. Heat vegetable oil in a large, deep pan or wok over medium heat.
    3. Dip tofu slices into bowl of beaten egg and fry in hot oil until lightly browned, about 3 minutes per side.
    4. Mix soy sauce, spring onions, chilli peppers, vinegar, sugar and dried chilli flakes together in a small bowl. Dip fried tofu into dipping sauce.
