About this recipe: Mint is not the only herb that works well with rum in a cocktail. Based on the mojito, give this basil and cucumber-flavoured cocktail a try.


Serves: 1 

  • 3 slices cucumber
  • 8 basil leaves, or more to taste
  • 2 slices of lime
  • 2 shots rum, or to taste
  • 2 sugar cubes
  • ice cubes as required
  • 1 splash soda water
  • 1 cucumber wedge for garnish
  • 1 sprig fresh basil for garnish

  1. Put cucumbers, basil leaves, lime slices, rum and sugar cubes into a metal cocktail shaker. Mash mixture together with a muddler until the sugar cubes have dissolved. Add ice, place lid onto the shaker and shake vigorously; strain into a chilled glass tumbler filled with ice. Top cocktail with soda water and garnish with cucumber and basil.
