Fruit flavoured water

    Flavoured water is so much more refreshing and thirst-quenching than some soft drinks you can buy. This flavoured water is infused with cucumber, ginger, lemon balm, citrus and nectarine. The jug can be refilled with water 1 to 2 more times before it loses flavour. Keeps for up to 3 days in the fridge.

    Serves: 8 

    • 1/2 small cucumber, sliced thin
    • 1/2 nectarine, pitted and chopped
    • 1/2 lemon, sliced
    • 1/2 lemon, juiced
    • 1/2 lime, sliced
    • 1/2 lime, juiced
    • 4 slices fresh ginger, peeled, or more to taste
    • 10 lemon balm leaves, or more to taste
    • 2L water
    • natural sweetener to taste (optional)

    1. Place cucumber, nectarine, lemon slices, lemon juice, lime slices, lime juice, ginger and lemon balm leaves in a large jug or pitcher; mash gently with a wooden spoon. Pour in water; stir and refrigerate until flavours blend, 2 hours to overnight. Strain; serve over ice.

    Other ideas:

    Lemon balm can be substituted with fresh mint leaves; lime substituted with slices and juice of a red grapefruit; and nectarine substituted with peach, if desired. If you like your water fizzy, add some sparkling mineral water as well.
