Macaroni and cheese

    A homemade favourite, this classic macaroni and cheese is simple to make and guaranteed comfort food.

    Serves: 4 

    • 350g macaroni
    • 50g butter
    • 50g plain flour
    • 1 pint milk
    • 500g grated cheese
    • 1 1/2 teaspoon English mustard
    • salt and black pepper to taste

    1. Boil pasta following instructions on packet.
    2. Melt butter in pan. Add flour and mix together to form a paste gradually. Add milk till sauce is at the consistency you like, then add cheese keeping some back for topping. Add mustard, salt and pepper; stir.
    3. Drain pasta and add to sauce; stir well. Put in ovenproof dish, sprinkle remaining cheese on top.
    4. Bake for 45 minutes in oven at 180 C / Gas 4.


    You can also top with tomato and bacon along with cheese.
