Strawberry and basil smoothie

    Basil is the secret ingredient in this strawberry and protein smoothie that is perfect for breakfast or dessert!

    Serves: 1 

    • 225ml almond milk
    • 5 frozen strawberries, or more to taste
    • 2 scoops vanilla protein powder
    • 1 large lemon, juiced
    • 1 tablespoon milled flaxseed
    • 6 fresh basil leaves

    1. Blend almond milk, strawberries, protein powder, lemon juice, flaxseed and basil in a blender until smooth.


    You can substitute the almond milk with water and coconut milk.

    I love strawberry shakes and a healthy one to boot! Woot! But I've never had the combination of strawberry and basil together before so curiousity got the best of me. I only used the five strawberries mentioned and wished I would have upped them by a few more...ok doubled them...because the strawberry flavor just wasn't enough for me at only five. The hint of basil was nice though and not overpowering. This drink just wasn't of a shake consistency to me...more like a smoothie. Perhaps it would have been more shake-like had I upped the frozen strawberries. Good though, and worth a try.  -  09 Sep 2015  (Review from Allrecipes US | Canada)
